Tool Library and How-Tos

Want to borrow tools from ISN?  Contact us to make arrangements.
Don't see a tool (or tools) that you want to borrow?  Let us know and we may have what you need!

Learn how to use a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx to mark, find, and navigate to a waypoint. Then, check out the MISIN protocols for GPS Field Coding for information on how to name your data points.

Fall is a great time to tackle the invasive woody shrubs on your property, and a weed wrench is an easy alternative to herbicide treatment. Read this how-to article to make sure a weed wrench is right for your invasive species removal project.

Read the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE, formerly MDEQ) guide for Aquatic Vegetation Survey using a double sided rake prior to your survey project.

Reserving a Tool

The Northwest Michigan Invasive Species Network is happy to loan out tools to assist landowners in reporting invasive species, and the manual removal of invasive plants from their property. Please contact someone from our team to get started with renting a tool.

A refundable deposit (check is preferred) is required upon pick up. All deposits will be fully refunded upon the return of the equipment in the same condition in which it was loaned out. All tools are available for up to 1 week at a time.

Reservations are not guaranteed until you've received confirmation from an ISN Staff. After confirmation, tools can be picked up at a specified date & time from our office at 3334 Veterans Drive Traverse City, MI 49684.

Available Tools:
Large Weed Wrench (Puller Bear brand) - $50 deposit
Medium Weed Wrench (Puller Bear brand) - $50 deposit
Root Slayer Shovel - $25 deposit
GPS Unit - $50 deposit
Aquatic Vegetation Survey Rake - $20 deposit

We also have foaming & dabber "magic wand" applicators for cut stump applications, as well as knotweed injectors for filling stem segments with herbicide.
