Woody Invasives Control Methods
Don't forget to utilize the website's search bar! Look up keywords, common/scientific names, etc to find more information on species' effects, local efforts, control options, and more.
For information on joining our list for invasive species management and control, please fill out the signup form linked below to get on our waitlist. We focus treatments on garlic mustard*, black and pale swallow-worts**, baby's breath*, knotweeds, invasive bittersweet, slender false brome***, and invasive phragmites. Topics to discuss upon making contact include treatment options, setting up an estimate for the time & cost needed for treatment (either through an in-person site visit or through photos), cost-share options, obtaining permission to enter & treat your property, and finally scheduling. Our schedules fill up fast, so the sooner you reach out in the season the better chances are we are able to help out.
Cost-share Program Signup
Our cost-share program consists of a 2-4 person "strike team" that covers our four-county service area, and we typically seek a contribution from the landowner to help offset our ever-increasing costs. Though ISN has secured partial funding through the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program (and other subgrants through various partnering organizations), we ask that property owners share ~half the costs in order to help us allow invasive species treatments to occur on as many properties as possible. The cost-share amount in 2026 will be $100/hour and includes all labor, transportation, travel, and equipment/supplies. However, treatment is not contingent upon participation in the cost-share, and we are happy to work with you on a case-by-case basis to find an amount that you are comfortable with.

*garlic mustard & baby's breath removal on public properties only; manual removal
**black and pale swallow-wort treatments are free of charge
***slender false brome removal on properties adjacent to Sleeping Bear Dunes NLS only. Free of charge
